J. Cole Tops Chart with His “Mighty Delete Later” Project
The unexpected release by J. Cole swiftly vaults to the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with “7 Minute Drill” at the top.
Unexpectedly released on April 5, the album quickly shot to the top of the chart with 115,000 equivalent album units for the tracking week of April 5–11, according to Luminate.
With a massive 105,000 units, streams dominated the first week of release, according to Billboard. Track sales barely make up 1,000 copies, while traditional album sales account for 9,000 of the total. The project’s most streamed and best-selling single was “7 Minute Drill.”
J. Cole achieves his seventh No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list with Might Delete Later. Prior to the recent milestone, Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011), Born Sinner (2013), and 2014 Forest Hills Drive (2014) were among the chart-toppers.
The revelation that Beyoncé ended J. Cole’s streak of number one albums on the Billboard 200 last week precedes the new figures.
According to Billboard, the singer’s new country album Cowboy Carter, which sold 128,000 album-equivalent units the week before, peaked at the top of the list for a second week in a row.
With almost 400,000 first-week copies, it made its No. 1 debut earlier this month, marking the biggest sales total of 2024 to date.
Cole’s unexpected mixtape Might Delete Later, which debuted at No. 2 on the chart with 115,000 equivalent copies in its first week, was outsold by the project.
